Falling in Love with Potential

Every relationship presents an opportunity for growth, but growth is a personal decision we make that no one else can control. In this episode, I discuss people I call "potential seekers" & the nature of this behavior. When we don't learn healthy boundaries in childhood, we don't develop a strong sense of self. Without a strong sense of self, we aren't able to see the people we become attached to as separate, personally responsible individuals with their own will, on their own life journey. We see them more as extensions of ourselves, & treat them as such...which makes us prone to forming codependent relationships with similarly wounded individuals, where we are trying to realize our own undeveloped potential through putting effort into another person's development instead of our own. We are bound to experience disappointment in relationships until we learn to see people as they currently are & consciously choose to invest in ourselves.
