Ep. 2: PART 2: Mythical Tales from Edra: Lock-In Edition: Gavin Boyter

Ep 2 PART 1: Mythical Tales from Edra: Lock-In Edition: Gavin Boyter

Greetings fellow Mythics!

Well, it wasn’t planned but this month’s special guest and myself rambled on for an age! So, this is Part 1 with Part 2 to follow… soon… ish...

“Keep it in the family they say,” so I did! This month’s special guest is a writer, a film maker, an ultra-runner, but more importantly he’s my cousin! It’s Gavin Boyter...

Once again, no actual pubs were visited in the making of this pubcast, although let’s pretend we’re in The Rusty Axe Tavern, shall we?

I first met Gavin, unsurprisingly, when we were kids; my family lived in Hertfordshire with his living in Edinburgh. Once a year for a good many a year, I would be excited to travel up on the night coach and spend a week or so visiting all of my Scottish recitatives. Normally we’d spend a day or so with Gavin and his family and I’ve fond memories of jumping off swings in the park, making up silly stories, and generally buffooning around with him, my brother and his sister.

As a kid, you rarely think about what people will be doing in ten, two or even thirty years time or what journey in life they have taken. Gavin has lead an interesting and some would say, unconventional life. He has written and directed a feature film, ‘Sparks and Embers’, written a published book, ‘Downhill From Here,’ and has another one, ‘Running the Orient,’ due out on the 14thAugust.

As we delved into various subjects such as the nature of creativity, early forays into the film making business, and his failed attempts at writing a novel, I discovered there is a lot more to Gavin than I knew, and we’re family!

I hope you enjoy this Mythical Tales from Edra episode lovingly recorded from The Rusty Axe Tavern, the only pub in Ferrum’s Forge to serve Old Giant’s Toe.

If you'd like to support the show you can do so by becoming a patron of Mythical Tales form Edra. There are magical rewards to be had!
Visit www.patreon.com/mythicaltalesfromedra

As you can see from the links below, Gavin’s been a very busy boy:

Primal Scream video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxG4h_As61o

The Veils video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPsd2XaBKzc

Beyond: https://youtu.be/jiPwK3aeq6Y

Sparks and Embers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6il8mlEydA

Downhill From Here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Downhill-Here-Running-OGroats-Lands/dp/1910985627

Running the Orient: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Running-Orient-Gavin-Boyter/dp/1912101378

Kenin music video ‘Let’s Get Outta Here’, Madina Lake:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC9EJwtC_Wc

May the magic of storytelling flow through you, always...

Ken
The Mythic Storyteller.

Be the first to listen!
Enjoyed this episode?
