Modeled on life in the small town of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waters,_Arkansas" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Waters, Arkansas</a>, near where Lauck and Goff grew up, the show proved immensely popular. In 1936, Waters changed its name to "Pine Ridge" after the show's <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Ridge_(Lum_and_Abner)" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fictional town</a>.
