Each month, we dive into the wonderfully weird world of social norms and the unwritten rules that guide our behaviour in different settings.
What actually happens in female public toilets — and is it different for men? Why do we queue the way we do? What is the silent choreography of lifts and elevators? How are we “supposed” to behave on public transport? … and so much more.
Along the way, we’ll explore how factors like culture, age, gender, class, and religion shape these everyday expectations.
Not Your Nanna's Norms makes sociology fun, accessible, and a little bit cheeky — something anyone can enjoy, not just the lucky few who’ve taken a sociology class.
So long, farewell and a big goodbye from me folks - at least for now :)

What if the host only provides so called healthy food to the kids? Does the birthday child blow out candles on the shared cake or individual cakes? What song do we sing to celebrate?

Everyday Meals
This episode we are diving into the wonderfully weird world of everyday meal‑time norms. Are elbows on the table or sitting on the couch to eat really that bad? Is it socially acceptable to sneak a bite before everyone’s been served, or leave the table during the meal?
And of course, we’ll be unpacking my Nanna’s favourite saying, “elegant sufficiency”.
