Morgan from Traffic Signals

Morgan Glasgow is the Supervisor of Traffic Signals Systems within the Public Works Department. [3:21] Morgan begins by explaining how Winnipeg’s lack of freeways creates a unique challenge for signals timing. [5:54] He explains how the City balances traffic flow with safety for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users. [10:20] Morgan shares how signals technology has changed over the past 100 years. Starting with Winnipeg’s first signal in 1926 to today's connected system that can be adjusted in real time. [12:20] Construction, collisions, and major events all play roles in signals timing. Morgan's team responds and adjusts to maintain the balance of safety and efficiency. [15:42] He also discusses newer technologies and some very Winnipeg innovations. Do you have a favourite traffic signal? Morgan does. [26:17] Find out where it is and why it's the only signal that works there.

This podcast is recorded in Treaty One Territory, the home and traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Ininew, and Dakota peoples, and in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
