[…] Careful analysis of the skeletons from two cemeteries in northern Sudan shows that violence was remarkably common and often the cause of death. At the most famous of these cemeteries, Jebel Sahaba, two-thirds of the 60 people buried had suffered traumatic injuries, including cracked skulls and broken bones. But more importantly, 40% of the skeletons had impact marks from projectile weapons, probably arrows. Eleven people had fragments of stone points embedded in their bones, and several had been buried with whole stone bladelets inside their bodies, parts of arrows that hadn't been removed. The experts that studied these skeletons concluded that this cemetery had been made by a tribe of people that had been repeatedly attacked by a rival group, using bows and arrows, spears, and blunt weapons.
