Movies, Rob Reiner & Shoeless Joe Jackson — Fridays With Larry
This week on Fridays With Larry, I turn to two longtime interests: movies and baseball.
I discuss the movie business, the future of the theater experience and the Heartland Film Festival. Then I revisit Adam Aasen’s 2017 interview with Rob Reiner from our former podcast, Hamilton County Goes to the Movies. Their conversation covers LBJ, comedy and The Princess Bride.
I close with memories of following the Cincinnati Reds and my take on Shoeless Joe Jackson’s complicated legacy. Was his punishment justified, and what responsibility did he bear for knowing about the fix and staying silent?

HSE Referendum 2026: Laura Cole, Matt Kegley and Tim Brown
Why is Hamilton Southeastern Schools asking voters to replace the referendum approved in 2023, and what would the proposal mean for homeowners and classrooms?
Larry Lannan talks with Laura Cole, chair of Advance HSE, the political action committee advocating passage; HSE Superintendent Dr. Matt Kegley; and Assistant Superintendent for Finance Tim Brown about the referendum on the November 3, 2026, ballot.
The conversation covers changes in Indiana property tax law, the maximum rate on the ballot versus the district’s planned 2027 rate, and Brown’s estimate of a $26 annual increase for the median homeowner in the first year. The guests also discuss teacher compensation, school safety, behavioral health supports, recent budget reductions and what could happen if voters reject the proposal.
Cole shares the campaign’s case for passage and addresses concerns from taxpayers, including residents without children in the schools.
Find district information and the property tax calculator on the HSE referendum website.
