[…] That effect comes from several complementary mechanisms. First, GLP-1 receptor agonists slow gastric emptying. As a result, people feel full sooner and stay full longer, often eating significantly less without feeling deprived. Second, GLP-1 receptors are found throughout the CNS, the central nervous system, particularly in regions like the hypothalamus and hindbrain, which regulate appetite and energy balance. Activation of these receptors increases satiety, reduces food cravings, and decreases the drive to eat. The effects aren't limited to appetite, though, and GLP-1 receptor agonists also improve glucose regulation in a couple of important ways. […]
