HIV & Housing Insecurity
According to the latest surveillance report published by the Public Health Agency of Canada, a total of 2,561 HIV diagnoses were reported in Canada in 2018. An estimated 7,271 British Columbians are living with HIV. People living with HIV often face stigma and discrimination, which may significantly affect their mental health and well-being, as well as financial security and stable housing. We talk to Katie who works at McLaren Housing Society of BC about this issue and also discuss some challenges the Covid-19 pandemic has presented in supporting people living with HIV. <p>In this episode, we will be talking about immigrant health. In Canada, immigration represents a large part of Canada’s population growth. Based on the 2016 Census conducted by Statistics Canada, almost 22% of the Canadian population were immigrants . So in trying to understand the health of populations in Canada, it is important to also talk about the health of immigrant populations in Canada.
