Episode 3: Interview with a Nuclear Medicine Specialist- Dr Kgomotso Mokoala
<p>Join us as we interview Dr Kgomotso Mokoala. Dr Mokoala is the first black woman in South Africa to be conferred a PhD in Nuclear Medicine.</p> <p>She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery at the University of Limpopo and received her MMed in Nuclear Medicine at Wits in 2015. Dr Mokoala has been working as a consultant in Nuclear Medicine at Steve Biko Academic Hospital since 2017. Recently, she obtained her PhD titled "Validity of tumour hypoxia assessment using Gallium-Nitroimidazole Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography in cancer of the cervix" in 2022.</p> <p>In this episode, we uncover Dr Mokoala's encounter with Nuclear Medicine, what Nuclear Medicine is and how to pursue a path in this field of study. </p>

<p>This episode we are honoured and thrilled to have interviewed Professor Llewellyn Padayachy- Paediatric Neurosurgeon, Chief specialist, as well as the head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pretoria. Professor Padayachy is internationally recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques and intra-operative monitoring modalities in pediatric brain tumor and hydrocephalus surgery, as well as for pioneering work on non-invasive diagnostic techniques in detecting raised intracranial pressure (ICP) in children.</p> <p>In this episode we dive into the topics of Paediatric Neurosurgery, the advancements and developments in the world of neuroscience, advice to medical students and much more!</p> <p><br></p>

Episode 1: Interview with a Physician - Dr Lizemarie Wium
<p>Welcome to the first episode of the series. We’re honoured and thrilled to be speaking to Dr Lizemarie Wium. Dr Wium is a specialist physician working at the internal medicine department of Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria. She has a special interest in obstetrics and is a part of the Society of Obstetric Medicine South Africa (SOOMSA). She completed her MBChB at the University of Free State and MMed in Internal Medicine and FCP(SA) at the University of Pretoria. She was further trained in obstetrics by Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy at the Guy's and St Thomas Hospital Trust, London in 2018.</p> <p>This episode will cover Dr Wium’s journey through medicine, the challenges she faced, her motivation as well as advice for medical students and of course how she has integrated internal medicine with obstetrics.</p> <p>Enjoy the episode!</p>
