<p>Welcome to the second episode of Putting the Bible Together. This podcast is dedicated to conversations that explore the beauty and power of the biblical story. In this episode, Mark Catlin welcomes Matthew Emerson to discuss his book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07855SK94/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1">The Story of Scripture: An Introduction to Biblical Theology</a>.</p> <p>Matt is the Dean of Theology, arts, and humanities at Oklahoma Baptist University. He earned a bachelor’s degree from a university in the state of Alabama, and he also holds an M.Div. and Ph.D. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He serves as co-Executive Director of the <a href="http://www.centerforbaptistrenewal.com/">Center for Baptist Renewal,</a> co-editor of the Journal of Baptist Studies, and Senior Fellow for the Center of Ancient Christian Studies. He and his wife, Alicia, have five daughters.</p> <p>Emerson has authored or co-authored over 20 publications, including his most recent book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/He-Descended-Dead-Evangelical-Theology/dp/0830852581/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=he+descended+to+the+dead&qid=1622648499&sr=8-1">He Descended to the Dead: An Evangelical Theology of Holy Saturday</a>, published in 2019. Today we will be discussing his earlier book The Story of Scripture: An Introduction to Biblical Theology. In this book, Emerson traces the story of Scripture through creation, fall, redemption, and new creation, showing how the Bible tells a cohesive story centered on Jesus. He does this in an extremely clear and accessible way. This book will help you understand the overarching narrative of Scripture and also help you understand how to read each piece of the story in light of the whole. In other words, The Story of Scripture can help you put the Bible together.</p> <p><br></p>

In this episode, Mark Catlin, the host of Putting the Bible Together, welcomes Joshua McNall to discuss his book <a href="https://www.seedbed.com/why-i-wrote-long-story-short-the-bible-in-six-simple-movements/">Long Story Short: The Bible in Six Simple Movements</a>.</p> <p>Josh is <a href="https://www.okwu.edu/staff/josh-mcnall/">Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology</a> at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Josh also serves local churches by preaching regularly around the country and serving as the Ambassador of Church Relations for OKWU. He blogs regularly at <a href="http://www.joshuamcnall.com/"><strong>www.joshuamcnall.com</strong></a> and hosts the Outpost Theology podcast. Josh and his wife Brianna have four children.</p> <p>In Long Story Short, Josh traces the storyline of Scripture through creation, fall, Israel, Jesus, the Church, and new creation, and he does it in a fun and winsome way. In the podcast we discuss a bit about each chapter of the story, how Josh discovered the metanarrative revealed by Scripture, the power of the story to change our everyday lives, and the part of the story that is most meaningful to him.
