[…] Let's now talk to Dr. Joshua Steinberg, who serves as the director of IBD at Gastroenterology of the Rockies, about why gastroenterology and rheumatology collaborations matter in PSA. Welcome, Dr. Steinberg. Thanks so much for having me. We know that patients with PSA have about a seven times higher risk of developing IBD than the general population. There are several inflammatory cytokines like TNF and IL-23 that play a role in both PSA and IBD. So Dr. Steinberg, why should rheumatologists be thinking about IBD in their patients with PSA? It's a great question. From a clinical standpoint, we know that patients with comorbid PSA and IBD have reported experiencing greater pain and disability And they might have reduced treatment success compared to the patients that might have only a PSA diagnosis.
