02: Discussing whuppings, white boys, being enough and defining one's Blackness with Shanice Allen

Back from a mini-hiatus, I sit with my friend, Shanice Allen (Creative Executive, Appian Way) as she bares all and examines her childhood in Australia, the impacts of racism on her identity and dating life and her personal exploration of her Black identity. This episode is very dear to me as we discuss the impacts of how we were disciplined and our shared fear of dating Black womxn. The question of "am I enough?" becomes a center point as is how this can drive one's behavior. Shanice shares the tangible ways in which she's choosing new behaviors and, subsequently, a new path on her journey to becoming whole. 01: Divine Timing, Ancestral Wounds and Connecting to Spirit with Steven Canals

Welcome to Season One and it's my deepest joy to start with my beloved friend, Creator of Pose (series), writer, director and producer, Steven Canals. Helming from the Bronx, Steven earned his BA in Cinema and MA in Student Affairs from Binghamton before obtaining his MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA (where we met). Inspired by Paris is Burning, Steven created the television series Pose while still getting his MFA and once Ryan Murphy came on board with producing partner Brad Falchuk, the rest is well-known history. To know and love Steven is a gift because he truly meets everyone with an open heart and mind. This episode encompasses so much of that as he brings forth so much gentility and grace as he discusses his divine purpose, healing and spiritual mindset. Rich Rising! Welcome to Rootwork! I'm Eve, your host. I'm a Spiritual and Transformational Coach, Herbalist, and soon to be therapist. I'm also a former film and tv executive and went through a major career pivot in 2023 and have embarked on this new career as I fulfill my divine purpose. I have SLE (Lupus) and I'm in recovery for anorexia amongst being a narcissist survivor (my mother) which is why you'll here me speak on these topics at time. There's also an herbalism component as each guest answered a questionnaire and I designed a tea for them. Some of them received one of my staples either unchanged or with some swaps/additions. Herbalism is one of my offerings to you all as well as coaching and eventually, therapy. During these interviews, we're being raw and honest about who we are and who we're growing into as everyone on this show has faced adversity and is dedicated to bringing forth love, safety, prosperity and joy into their lives and the world.
