St. Catherine of Siena's Mysticism - Catholicism Coffee

Today we're reading an article by Ralph Sherman about Saint Catherine of Sienaโ€™s History and Mysticism. Catherine of Siena; Saint of Rome and Italy, is one of the female mystics of the Catholic Church. She was born in Siena, Italy, on March 25, 1347. Her parents were Lapa Piagenti and Giacomo di Benincasa. She had 24 siblings, including a twin!

Sherman tells us that even though Catherine was not formally educated, she was a great theologian and had many mystical experiences, including her mystical marriage to Christ.
--
- Read the Catholicism Coffee article here: https://catholicismcoffee.org/saint-catherine-of-sienas-mysticism-catholicismcoffee-4ff1f4c9071e
--
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ - Youtube: https://bit.ly/RosaryPursuitYT

๐Ÿฆ - TWITTER: https://twitter.com/RosaryPursuit

๐Ÿ”บ - REDDIT: https://www.reddit.com/user/RosaryPursuit
--
- Catholicism Coffee content is used with permission of Catholicism Coffee and its Authors.

- "George Street Shuffle", "Night in Venice", "Mining by Moonlight", & "Lobby Time" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) used under CC BY 4.0, ran through a compressor from the original.

Read me or Rue it - Chapter Three

How long is purgatory? How long do people spend in purgatory? These are common questions answered in today's chapter, the length of time souls are detained in purgatory depends on the number of their sins, their malice and deliberation, and the penance done for them. The punishment is also tempered by the good works which the living do for them.

We living can also pray the litany for the poor souls in purgatory to assist in their release, a rosary for souls in purgatory works well too! The beauty of prayer, for these souls, can be found in the great gratitude they will have for us. The petitions of the holy souls will do as well, as all are men and women in good standing with God.

Purgatory is a place where souls go after death to be purified before entering heaven. It is a long process, but it is worth it in the end.

--

This title is somewhat startling. Yet, Dear Reader, if you peruse this little book, you will see for yourself how well deserved it is. The book tells us how to save ourselves and how to save others from untold suffering. Some books are good and may be read with profit. Others are better and should be read without fail.

There are, however, books of such sterling worth by reason of the counsels they suggest, the conviction they carry with them, the urge to action they give us that it would be sheer folly not to read them.

Read Me or Rue It belongs to this class. It is in your best interest, Dear Friend, to read it and reread it, to ponder well and deeply on its contents. You will never regret it; rather, great and poignant will be your regret if you fail to study its few but pregnant pages.

--

Watch the playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8vrZOi1J2tu75nY6mAOePYWUY3_Mj3rE

--

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ - Youtube: https://bit.ly/RosaryPursuitYT

๐Ÿฆ - TWITTER: https://twitter.com/RosaryPursuit

๐Ÿ”บ - REDDIT: https://www.reddit.com/user/RosaryPursuit

--

- "George Street Shuffle", "Night in Venice", "Mining by Moonlight", & "Lobby Time" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) used under CC BY 4.0, ran through a compressor from original.

Faith and Reason - Catholicism for the Modern World

Today we read an article by Jonathan Molik, reconciling Faith and Reason, why it's important, as well as the relationships we have with our fellow man, and God. We look at writings by St. Thomas Aquinas and Pope Saint John Paul II for guidance on the question of whether faith and reason can coexist, finding the answer is that not only can they coexist, but are based on each other.

Faith is based on the authority of God, while reason is based on the nature of things. Both are necessary for understanding the truth. Faith without reason can lead to error, and reason without faith can lead to heresy.

Faith and reason are both gifts from God. Reason enables us to understand the natural world, while faith gives us knowledge of the supernatural world.

We read that "reason is the light of faith." In other words, our reason is what allows us to understand and believe in the things of faith. It is not a matter of one being better than the other, but of each complementing the other. As Saint Augustine said, "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe."
--
Read the Catholicism for the Modern World article here: - https://medium.com/catholicism-for-the-modern-world/faith-and-reason-relationship-between-god-and-man-man-and-neighbor-8f1c215d83a9
--
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ - Youtube: https://bit.ly/RosaryPursuitYT

๐Ÿฆ - TWITTER: https://twitter.com/RosaryPursuit

๐Ÿ”บ - REDDIT: https://www.reddit.com/user/RosaryPursuit
--
Catholicism for the Modern World content is used with permission of Catholicism for the Modern World and its Authors.

"George Street Shuffle", "Night in Venice", "Mining by Moonlight", & "Lobby Time" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) used under CC BY 4.0 (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) ran through a compressor from the original.
