E7: Advancing Public Housing in NYC with the Public Housing Preservation Trust

RPA's VP for Housing and Neighborhood Planning, Moses Gates, is joined by the President of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust, Dr. Vlada Kenniff, to discuss the establishment of the agency, its staff, agenda, and ways of working to preserve and improve the stock and conditions of the NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA)--the largest housing authority in the United States. On June 16, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation creating the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust (the Trust) after unprecedented advocacy from residents, NYCHA employees, and advocates eager for a solution to improve their homes and communities. The Trust is a government agency that repairs, renovates, and modernizes public housing for residents in partnership with the New York City Housing Authority. The Trust will comprehensively renovate and improve operations of public housing through the resident-centric Preservation Program For more on The Trust, please see: https://www.preservationtrust.org/ For more from RPA on how to improve NYCHA, please see: https://rpa.org/work/reports/time-to-act https://rpa.org/work/reports/scalable-design-solutions-for-nycha https://rpa.org/work/reports/nychas-crisis https://rpa.org/work/reports/nycha-resident-needs-assessment
