MUSIEK IN DIE ARE: GESLAGTE VAN PAPIER-MUSIEK deur Carla Mackenzie
<p>Die Papier Family Band se musiek vertel die verhaal van familie, erfenis en die unieke ritmes wat al geslagte lank deel vorm van Suid-Afrika se musikale geskiedenis. Sedert 1932 weerklink die klanke van die Papier-familie deur Franschhoek se strate. Vandag speel hulle nie net vir hulle gemeenskap nie, maar ook op wêreldverhoë. Hierdie is die verhaal van 'n familie wie se musiek hulle van die Boland tot by die Chelsea Blommeskou in Londen geneem het. Die familie is veral bekend as die Papier Langarm Orkes of Papier Family Band. Die orkes bestaan uit pa, kleinseun en familielede wat 'n musikale nalatenskap voortsit wat deur hulle pa, Marthinus Papier, begin is. Vandag speel Frank Papier (77) die trekklavier en kleinseun Greagan (13) elf instrumente, en so leef meer as 100 jaar se musiekervaring in die familie voort. Greagan is onlangs vir ‘n KKNK KANNA-toekenning benoem vir Beste Musiekspel by die ABSA KKNK 2026.</p>

’N PADDA IS ‘N DING WAT SPRING, OF NIE? deur Kobus Rudolph
Hoekom kry mens paddas in jou huis? Kan ‘n padda muurklim? Hoekom verdrink paddas as hulle amfibieërs is? Kry mens vratjies van paddas? Is paddas giftig? Reën dit paddas as daar dan so baie paddas is wanneer dit reën? Hoekom kwaak ‘n padda? Hoe lank slaap ‘n padda in die winter? Waar bly paddas? Prof. Louis du Preez van die Departement Dierkunde aan die Noordwes-Universiteit doen al vir langer as 30 jaar navorsing op parasiete en paddas. Tydens sy navorsing het hy besef dat van die parasiete in die blase van paddas voorkom. Dit het gelei tot sy intense navorsing op paddas as amfibieërs. Hy en sy mede-navorsers het die afgelope twee dekades dit reggekry om unieke en pragtige, suiwer geluide van 160 verskillende paddaspesies op te neem.
