DanShan is back and the world of Zed Run lending has arrived whether we’re ready or not. For current Zed Run stable owners the way to lend horses is simple. You stake 250 Zed tokens on the lending market to receive a permit. Then with the permit you can add horse to the market. If someone chooses to borrow it a four day contract will be initiated then you’ll split the winning while they have it. Pretty simple stuff but we go into pretty deep detail of the ramifications for the game going forward. We plan on lending out to each other soon to see how it all works and tank each other’s donkeys to oblivion. The Strategy Behind Z268s We also get some great breeding insight for the Z268 tourneys. DanShan really knows his stuff and I can’t wait to try his system out for myself. Definitely worth trying considering the cost to breed them. Thoughts On 6 Horse Races Six horses races have now been rolled out in an experiment and boy are they fun. Although there are concerns in regards to data analytics I think that’s an easy fix and it only creates more fun. Very encouraging to see and the fact they fill up so quick will only increase user involvement. Paid races in Zed Run needed this exciting little change. Everybody Loves A Good Nood Zed Noods are here! Honestly the nightmares haven’t stopped since I saw them. We kind of go off the rails here but sweet fancy Moses these things are terrifying. Buying A ZED Horse Revisited (Ep. 15)
On Episode 2 we discussed how to buy a horse, but things change quickly in the Zed Run landscape so we wanted to make sure to clarify a few things. As more tools become available and easier to use there's never been a better time to make informed decisions when buying a Zed Run horse. Speed Kills As Blake said, “fast horses breed fast horses.” At the end of the day the more speed you have in the stable the more things you can do with it. Remember you want your breeding pairs to have matching distance preferences so keep that in mind when building your stable early on. Matching those distance preferences with similar high-speed horses in the same distance goes a long way toward building confidence in how you build your stable from within. Like most things, research is a major key. The more research you do, the easier it becomes to spot advantages and excellent pairings. Things To Look For When evaluating speed you ideally want to find horses that flash elite numbers in more than one distance. If you have two horses that flash hard at 1200m and 1400m they probably make a good breeding pair. If they have a matching tank distance even bigger bonus. One thing we've honed in on lately is finding those pairs with matching DP and tank distance preferences. With things ever changing in Zed Run, this seems to be a combo that has held strong in breeding 2.0. Market Changes A couple of months ago you could pretty much only buy horses on OpenSea. Now Hawku and others have stepped up as viable alternative markets. To be able to buy and sell on Hawkuyou'll need to purchase a very small amount of the MATIC token to bridge the transactions. Also, make sure you check if a male is in the stud barn before you buy! Happened to me twice lately. Breeding 2.0 (Ep. 14)
So as we’ve learned more about Zed Run breeding 2.0, it seems like not only is base ability and distance preference passed down, but variance most definitely is too. I’ve seen this firsthand with a new breed I just did Melrose Avenue. Definitely was able to get her mother’s high variance to go with her father’s distance preference. That goes a long way towards helping improve the line a little. Now going forward it doesn’t appear breeding lotto tickets will really hit like they used to. I could definitely see them tweaking the variance in new horses going forward for a breeding 3.0 update, though. I get they don’t want variance luck to be the only way to build a stable but there needs to be a balance with skill and some luck sprinkled in. Perhaps the biggest nugget to drop was it seems progression is on the way. Horses will essentially have their power score and a potential score and it will take the best horse management to get the most out of it. This is a great development and gives me hope that a Zed Run version of Seabiscuit is out there. A perceived donkey that can thrive in the right hands. Can’t wait to see how this works out going forward. This could lead to an entirely new strategy for both breeding and racing. Six horse races are now being experimented with a week after the screenshot was shared showing head-to-head racing. This is, hopefully, all leading to customizable private races where smaller communities can compete among each other without fear of getting killed by the bigger stables. If small stables only exist to kick up cash to the bigger ones the game is in trouble. In a perfect world, though, this is all laying the groundwork for that type of expansion. Becca from Zed Run is doing some class system user feedback sessions so I’m guessing the changes there are coming soon. The game still has Its kinks to work out but, at end of the day, it’s still in beta testing and will take some work in the short term to achieve its full potential. I’m working on a breeding spreadsheet that appears to be really helping me. Once I get it fully dialed in the template will be available right here for you to download and use yourselves.
