Junko Kazukawa | Finding belonging through running after cancer.

You’ve hopefully been able to watch our first film that just dropped on Youtube. It's the story of Junko who moved from Japan to the US during college and struggled to assimilate. She was diagnosed with breast cancer twice before deciding to running the Leadville 100. This year she finished Leadville for the 10th time and along the way has found that thing she’d been looking for the all along - belonging.

I chat with Junko to go deeper into her backstory and the challenges integrating into the US, how she once lined up for the Leadville 100 MTB knowing she had cancer and then ran the NYC marathon a month after finishing a chemo series. We also discuss the story of her race in Leadville this year, her incredible 3rd finish of the Lead Challenge and her love for Japanese quiz shows.

Please support the AS brand podcast and films by subscribing on both Spotify and Youtube.

To be the first to hear about films, new podcasts events and products subscribe to our email list at auteursportif.com.

JUNKO film on YouTube

Junko’s fundraiser for the Leadville Legacy Foundation (until end Sept)

@runjunkorun on Instagram

JunkoMtnTraining.com

Boundless Coaching

Adah Chapman | Magic at Western States. A story from the next generation of female trail runners.

Adah Chapman is a 17-year old trail runner from New Hampshire who found herself inspired by the "Here For the Women’s Race" t-shirts at Western States this summer. When the shirts sold out she made her own with a red marker and white t-shirt from CVS and proceeded to have it autographed by as many of the women racing as she could find. A truly magical moment before the race had even started.

Matt talks to Adah to hear about that experience at Western States, the things she wants to see in trail running to create equity for women, her thoughts on UTMB and Lululemon’s Further event plus how she is inspired by Jessie Diggins, Hillary Allen and the Trail Society Podcast. We also hear about the FKT she set on the 100k Double Pemigewasset (Pemi) loop in the White Mountains when she was just 15 years old.

We hope this conversation gives you a perspective into how all of these female focused activities are affecting one young woman in the next generation of runners.

Please support the podcast and the Auteur Sportif brand by subscribing here on Spotify. Dean Leslie | "Growing the pie" through Salomon Running TV

Dean Leslie is the filmmaker behind the 5 legendary seasons of Salomon Running TV from 2011-2016 and several related films up through 2022. It's safe to say no film series has had such a large effect on the sport of trail running. Dean's storytelling laid the groundwork for the boom we see in the sport today.

Dean and Matt chat about how the series came about, how the brand set him up for success and the impact of honest long-form storytelling for both Salomon and the sport of trail running.
