I began running on Aug 12, 1966. I thought I should run a couple of times before the first cross country practice entering high school. I have pretty much kept with it since. There were times when I was fast, skinny, slow, old, injured, delirious, pained, jubilant, joyful, stressed and everything else one can imagine. Most often several interplay on the same run. I've run more than 116,000 miles and I am proud of that number. It shows a long term commitment to something that has given me a way to look at the world I would have never possessed had I not chosen this path. So, I guess I'll share.

Hello 2021! RunSpittle Podcast Ep 2

Welcome to the RunSpittle podcast. This podcast will mostly focus on the ramblings of someone who has run for over 54 years, logging over 116,000 miles. Lots of stories come with those miles and A BUNCH of perspective. Occasionally, we'll interview other runners to deepen the perspective of what we share. Hope you enjoy.....

My running in 2020 was mostly short and most always slow. But I digress, or maybe I don't. Anyway, I completed 2023 miles in 2020. Yep, I "ran the year" as they say. Of the 55 recorded running years in my life, it ranked 29th as far as miles run. On the upside is the fact that halfway through the year, I had logged a mere 795 miles and was on the way to a disastrous total. Then something happened, but more on that later.

Welcome to the RunSpittle podcast

Welcome to the RunSpittle Podcast.

It began mostly because I didn't want to be embarrassed. The first day of Cross Country practice was Monday and it was already Friday, August 12, 1966. I needed to get in shape fast! So I laced up my new Beta Bullets and went for a run. It was a half an hour long and the only thing I recall is that it seemed like FOREVER!

The next day, I did it again. I took Sunday off (well, it was SUNDAY, right?) and reported for practice bright and early Monday morning. I had no idea what was to come and especially the significance it would have on the entirety of my life.
