Frau Perchta und das Mädchen
Seit jeher erzählen sich die Menschen in Sonneberg von einer geheimnisvollen Gestalt, Perchta genannt. Im tiefsten Winter soll sie durch die Wälder ziehen – eine alte Dame, buckelig und voller Falten. Anderen soll sie als junge Frau erscheinen, deren Schönheit im Frühjahr die ersten Knospen zum Sprießen bringt.

So erzählt man sich von geheimnisvollen Gestalten, die zur rechten Zeit am rechten Ort mit einer Geste der Güte den Lauf der Geschichte veränderten. Der Drache aus der Schmiede
Oberhalb von Stadtroda scheint die Zeit stillzustehen. Wen es schon einmal in diese Gegend unberührter Natur verschlagen hat, der mag die alten Fachwerkhäuser mit ihren bunten Fenstern und farbigen Türen bemerkt haben. In den Tälerdörfern schmiegen sich verwunschene Gärten und plätschernde Bäche aneinander. Hier, im Tal der Roda, wurde schon so manch abenteuerliche Geschichte den Fluss hinaufgetragen. Eine dieser Erzählungen handelt von Renthendorf und den Drachenhäusern.
