Santa Cruz ha estado históricamente ligado a Cruces de Caminos, a Vías de Paso, a Puertos óptimos para atravesar zonas montañosas, a Sendas de Tránsito y Peregrinación desde centurias atrás, como lo demuestra la importante vía de peregrinación que en tiempos medievales atraía a gente de toda índole y condición hasta el pozo de aguas milagrosas que hay en el Convento de los Agustinos, un pozo cargado además de misterio y magia a partes iguales, y que permitía aliviar tanto los males del cuerpo como los del alma.

Estamos frente a un templo de estilos mixtos, en el que se fusionan el románico y el gótico, pues las 5 arcadas mayores que contemplamos son de arcos apuntados (propios del gótico), así como los motivos florales que adornan sus columnas.
