Episode 10: Dr. Sumit Dahal | Studying the origins of the universe

In this episode, we talk with Dr. Sumit Dahal, a postdoctoral fellow at NASA, about his journey to being an astrophysicist at NASA. Dr. Dahal is interested in fundamental questions like how was the universe created? What exactly happened at the Big Bang? To answer these questions, he and his team build telescopes that can study the origins of our universe. For his PhD at Johns Hopkins University, he worked to build a set of telescopes called "<a href="https://sites.krieger.jhu.edu/class/">CLASS</a>" in the Atacama Desert, Chile. At NASA, he works on <a href="https://asd.gsfc.nasa.gov/piper/">a telescope</a> with similar science goals that will be launched into the stratosphere on a balloon. Dr. Reagon Karki is a Data Manager at Fraunhofer ITMP and recently completed his PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Bonn, Germany. He was interviewed a week before his final PhD thesis defence. Listen about his journey to research in bioinformatics to create tools for understanding complex diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and, more recently, COVID19.
