#4 - Welke rol speelde gospel bij de civil rights movement? (S02)
We gaan terug in de tijd, naar de tijd dat Amerika in brand staat, de oorlog in Vietnam was, Martin Luther King wordt doodgeschoten en de burgers op de straat het niet meer pikken en steeds meer opkomen voor hun eigen rechten. We gaan op zoek naar de rol die gospelmuziek hierin speelde en wat het ons in deze tijd te zeggen heeft. Dat doen we met gospelzangeres Muriel Blijd die voor ons in de huid van Mahalia Jackson kruipt, met de Amerikaanse professor Robert Darden die alles weet over ‘vergeten gospels’ en spirituals die de sleutel vormden in de tijd dat mensen in de jaren 60 de straat op gingen. En met Carl Maultsby, hij was een van die mensen die de straat op ging. Zanger Bertolf legt voor ons de link met de rol die de Beatles hierin hadden.
