The seeds of discontent were ready to begin blooming by '06, when a stroke of good fortune hit, and they found the perfect guy for the job to steady things out at signal caller. Steve McNair had gotten close to winning a Super Bowl ring with the Tennessee Titans, but failed to finish the job a number of times. Could his steady veteran presence prove to be what the Ravens needed to get over the hump in what was likely Billick's last gasp at retaining his job under a changing ownership structure? After moving away from Baltimore, the once iconic Colts franchise had some difficulties recapturing their past glories - that is, until a certain quarterback prospect entered the picture. Episode 3: The New Guard
After getting out to a perfect 4-0 start, the Baltimore Ravens were feeling pretty good about the experiment that was the 2006 season. That multiple unstable compounds such as a talented but unsatisfied roster, a head coach teetering on the hot seat, and an accomplished but ailing veteran quarterback could gel like that to start the year was a great feeling. But when they hit a bump in the road heading into their bye week, Brian Billick began to feel that drastic change was needed. That change combined with the remarkable consistency of a roster that was buoyed by a new guard of young talent was what kept them on track, and aiming for a shot to go back to the Super Bowl. Steve McNair had his eyes on the Super Bowl, but he also had them on a game circled on his calendar since before the start of the season - November, 12th, 2006, in what would be his first (and last time) in Adelphia Coliseum as anything other than a Titan. Episode 2: The Old Guard
After a Hall of Fame playing career, Ozzie Newsome chose to continue to test his football mettle by cutting his teeth in Bill Belichick's personnel department in the final days of the original Cleveland Browns organization. At the behest of Ozzie's boss Art Modell, this franchise was about to move to Baltimore, and the team building keys would be handed over to Newsome full-stop. As it happened, he was more than ready for the opportunity, building what would be the eventual Super Bowl XXXV champions from the dusty bones of a franchise that was torn asunder through this moving process. But living up to championship expectations is difficult, and once you set that precedent, there's no turning back.
