SON3 #3: Patricia Drewnowska - Baking Through Grief

In this episode, we speak to Patricia Drewnowska, the owner of Patricia’s Cake Creations, whose story kind of hits close to home. Her transition story begins with grief and fuelled her interest (which eventually turned into her drive) to begin a bakery, shifting from her background in finance and math. For me, as someone who also experienced immense grief (followed by depression and anxiety) in the past year, Patricia’s conversation resonated. We delve deeper into what grief does to you as a human being, which translates to how operating a business can either comfort or break your well-being. We also talk about pivoting a food business amidst a pandemic and why idealism doesn’t belong in times of crisis. Patricia now runs the immensely successful Toronto bakery with her mom, Maria, and is maneuvering the pandemic with grace (for the most part!), while also being an awesome mom to two kids.
