The Queer Art of Failure - Jack Halberstam
<p><strong>Seitenweise</strong> ist der Buchclub-Podcast von der *innenAnsicht. In jeder Folge sprechen wir über ein Buch, das wir aus feministischer Perspektive spannend finden. Dieses Mal: <strong>„The Queer Art of Failure“</strong> (zu deutsch: „Die queere Kunst des Scheiterns“) von Jack Halberstam</p> <p>„The Queer Art of Failure“ ist ein akademisches Werk im Feld der Queer Studies und Gender Studies und wurde 2011 veröffentlicht. Der Autor wurde 1961 als Judith Halberstam geboren und benutzt heute vorwiegend den Namen Jack und Er-Pronomen. Er ist Professor für englische Literatur sowie Women & Gender Studies an der Columbia University.</p> <p>Das Werk dreht sich um das Thema queer failure, also queeres Scheitern. Die Hypothese ist, dass wir in einer heteronormativen Gesellschaft leben, die also Heterosexualität als die „Norm“ ansieht und dass in dieser Gesellschaft nur als „erfolgreich“ gelten kann, wer dieser Norm entspricht. Dazu gehört insbesondere die Weiterführung des traditionelles Familienmodells einer heterosexuellen Ehe mit Kindern. Davon ausgehend kann also eine queere Person – jemand der zum Beispiel lesbisch, schwul, bi oder trans ist – keinen „Erfolg“ im Sinne des heteronormativen Ideals erreichen. Damit sind wir bei dem Begriff des queeren Scheiterns. Das Werk „The Queer Art of Failure“ befasst sich mit der Idee, den Begriff des Scheiterns, also failure, neu zu deuten und positiv zu besetzen. Der Autor möchte hinterfragen, was unsere Gesellschaft als Erfolg versteht und ob dieser überhaupt erstrebenswert ist, und welche Möglichkeiten sich für queere Menschen stattdessen durch das Scheitern (in den Augen der Gesellschaft) eröffnen können.</p>
