Time for Judgement

   As we prepare for Yom Kippur, we are reminded of the relentless power of the evil inclination, silenced only at death. Now, as we stand before God in judgment, we seek His closeness whose merciful embrace gives us power and strength. חֶפְצֵנוּ וּבַקָּשָׁתֵנוּ מַלֵּא בְרַחֲמִים: בְּךָ תָלִינוּ בִטְחוֹנֵנוּ, רַחֲמֶיךָ מְהֵרָה יְקַדְּמוּנוּ: חָזָק וְאַמִּיץ שִׁמְךָ לֹא־שָׁכָחְנוּ, אָנָּא, לָנֶצַח אַל־תִּשְׁכָּחֵנוּ: Join the WhatsApp group regular podcast updates: https://chat.whatsapp.com/DZkfSrCujZA26owBhxOJvx?mode=ems_wa_c (https://chat.whatsapp.com/DZkfSrCujZA26owBhxOJvx?mode=ems_wa_c) Send any questions, comments, or critiques to podcasts@torahinmotion.org (https://torahinmotion.org) If you would like to partner with us to create more thoughtful and accessible jewish content, visit torahinmotion.org/donate (https://www.torahinmotion.org/donate), or email us at info@torahinmotion.org (https://torahinmotion.org). 12. Hashem Hashem: The 13 Attributes of Mercy

Today we discuss the almost heretical notion as to why G-d’s 13 Attributes of Mercy are the central component of the selichot. יְקוָק יְקוָק קל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן אֶֽרֶךְ אַפַּֽיִם וְרַב־חֶֽסֶד וֶאֱמֶת: נֹצֵר חֶֽסֶד לָאֲלָפִים נֹשֵׂא עָוֹן וָפֶֽשַׁע וְחַטָּאָה וְנַקֵּה Join the WhatsApp group regular podcast updates: https://chat.whatsapp.com/DZkfSrCujZA26owBhxOJvx?mode=ems_wa_c (https://chat.whatsapp.com/DZkfSrCujZA26owBhxOJvx?mode=ems_wa_c) Send any questions, comments, or critiques to podcasts@torahinmotion.org (https://torahinmotion.org) If you would like to partner with us to create more thoughtful and accessible jewish content, visit torahinmotion.org/donate (https://www.torahinmotion.org/donate), or email us at info@torahinmotion.org (https://torahinmotion.org). 11. מִי שֶׁעָנָה | The One Who Answered

   In this piyyut said whenever selichot are recited we ask G-d to answer our prayers just as he answered the prayers of our Biblical ancestors from Avraham to Mordechai and Esther. Fascinatingly, for many of those mentioned there is no indication in the text that they actually prayed.
