[…] Both the Admiral Gregorovich and the British yacht were in international waters. or territorial waters generally, it could enter 12 miles outside a sovereign nation's coastline. Now, since this happened around 20 nautical miles or 30 kilometres, this was technically in international waters. And maritime law in international waters has a very different set of laws, but much looser, much less regulated. Despite this, the Russian Defence Ministry has argued that the warship did follow international maritime regulations and law. So the Russian Defence Ministry have said that the shots were fired as a warning and weren't fired at the ship but were fired near the ship. […]
