Filling the Hole in Your Heart: How to finally heal your loneliness
<p>Father Alfonse turned 61 last week. At the dinner table someone asked him what six decades had taught him — and he fumbled the answer. Driving home that night, he finally knew.What happened in between involved a bad meal, a walk at 10 o'clock at night, and a stranger in a Lamborghini who backed up his car for a seventh grader he had never met. By the time Father Alfonse got home, Isaiah's question had answered itself: why do we keep spending our money on what does not satisfy?Every one of us was built with a hunger. You have a stomach, and food exists. You have a throat, and water exists. You have a heart that aches to be loved and to matter — and Father Alfonse's answer this Sunday is that the ache is not a defect. It is a map.✝️ Why the man who owned the Lamborghini got more joy from giving the ride away than from owning the car ✝️ The six-month rule: how long a purchase actually satisfies before the hole opens again ✝️ $300 at Six Flags, four kids, and the free fountain they never stopped talking about ✝️ Saint Paul's list of what could separate us from Christ — and Father's modern version: loneliness, illness, rejection, trials ✝️ What Father Alfonse finally answered at 61: "I am not God. I need God. And thank God, I have God." ✝️ The one line he came back to the ambo to say after the homily had already ended🙏 PRAYER REFLECTION:Lord, I have spent so much on things that never filled me. I have confused what I own with who I am, and I am tired. Teach me to bring my thirst to You instead of to the next thing I can buy, and let me learn what Father Alfonse learned at 61 — that I am not God, that I need You, and that You were never going to turn me away.📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:Isaiah 55:1–3 — "All you who are thirsty, come to the water... Why spend your money for what is not bread?" Psalm 145:8–9, 15–18 — "The hand of the Lord feeds us; He answers all our needs." Romans 8:35, 37–39 — "What will separate us from the love of Christ?" Matthew 14:13–21 — The multiplication of the loaves: "They all ate and were satisfied."🎯 THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: Two things, both free.First, do for one person what the driver did for that boy. Not a gift you buy — a moment you give. Let the car merge. Sit with the widow after Mass instead of leaving with everyone else. Call the grandchild who never calls you. Watch what it does to you, not to them.Second, before you fall asleep one night this week, answer the question Father Alfonse fumbled at his own birthday dinner: what have your years actually taught you? Write the answer down in one sentence. If you cannot fill it without naming something you own, that is the homily talking to you.💬 What have your years taught you? What Are You Selling Your Soul For?
<p>What are you actually willing to sell?
