Bettina Campolucci Bordi - Women Cook At Home But Men Get Paid For It
“Women cook at home, but men get paid for it.” Why is cooking for your family seen as a woman’s responsibility, yet when it becomes a career, the food industry has traditionally been dominated by men? On this episode of Showing Up Stronger, I’m joined by acclaimed plant-based chef, author and wellness educator Bettina Campolucci-Bordi for an honest conversation about food, female ambition, motherhood and what it really means to nourish ourselves. With roots in Denmark, Tanzania and Bulgaria, Bettina has built a career around seasonal, plant-forward cooking, written three cookbooks and created an academy teaching others how to cook for wellness retreats around the world. We talk about: • Women, food and ambition: Why women are often expected to cook and nurture at home while men have traditionally been paid to do the same professionally. Bettina shares her journey into the food industry and why women should be fearless, trust their opinions and create their own opportunities. • Motherhood and sharing the load: Why Bettina and her husband made a conscious decision to share parenting 50/50, the assumptions around dads taking on childcare and how couples can support each other’s ambitions while raising a family. • Eating well without the pressure: How to make plant-based eating simple without becoming vegan or cutting foods out. Bettina shares practical ways to add more vegetables, fibre, beans, nuts and seeds to everyday meals, supporting gut health and overall wellbeing. • Wellness, longevity and finding balance: From her upcoming retreats in Japan exploring the secrets of longevity to the importance of community, slowing down and switching off, Bettina shares why doing less can sometimes be exactly what we need. This is a conversation about more than food. It’s about challenging expectations, creating opportunities, sharing the mental load and recognising that looking after ourselves matters just as much as looking after everyone else. Showing up stronger starts with how we nourish ourselves, the choices we make and the lives we build. Rhiannon Jones – My 5-Year-Old Told Me to Quit My Dream Job - Showing Up Stronger
“My five-year-old told me to quit my dream job.” What happens when the career you’ve worked so hard for starts costing you the things that matter most? Bilingual broadcaster and presenter Rhiannon Jones joins Sarah Campus on Showing Up Stronger for an honest conversation about motherhood, ambition, burnout and the courage to walk away from a dream job. With a career spanning CNN, TRT World and five years presenting for Real Madrid TV, Rhiannon had built an impressive career in broadcasting. Covering the war in Gaza took a huge emotional toll, and the long hours meant missing precious time with her two boys. When her children, in tears, told her they missed her and asked why she didn’t quit, everything changed. In this episode, we explore: ■ The Wake-Up Call: How her five-year-old’s words made Rhiannon question everything and ultimately walk away from her most secure, well-paid job. ■ The Hidden Cost of Success: The emotional impact of reporting on the war in Gaza, developing secondary trauma and experiencing anxiety that followed her home. ■ Motherhood & Ambition: The guilt of missing bedtime, the pressure to have it all and learning that career success shouldn’t come at the expense of your health or family. ■ Redefining Success: How leaving her dream job transformed her family relationships, why padel became her much-needed escape, and learning to prioritise what truly matters. A powerful reminder that sometimes, showing up stronger means having the courage to change direction, even when it means letting go of everything you thought you wanted. Calli Hauger-Thackery - I Ran 3 Marathons While Pregnant
What happens when your biggest sporting heartbreak becomes the fuel for your next chapter? Great Britain marathon runner Calli Hauger-Thackeray opens up about Olympic disappointment, motherhood, resilience and the extraordinary journey of running marathons while pregnant. Calli Hauger-Thackeray is a Great Britain endurance athlete who transitioned from the track to the marathon, running 2:21 on her debut and competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She made headlines after running the Boston Marathon at 22 weeks pregnant, before welcoming her son Evan and beginning the journey back to running just six weeks postpartum. In this episode, she explains: ■ The Olympic Heartbreak: How discovering her mum had cancer just weeks before the Paris Olympics affected her sleep, nutrition and ultimately led to a DNF, and why failure became fuel for her comeback. ■ Running Through Pregnancy: What it was really like to train and race throughout pregnancy, including completing the Boston Marathon at 22 weeks, while learning to listen to her body and adapt her training day by day. ■ The Power of Resilience: Why fitness alone isn’t enough to get you through a marathon, and how devastating moments can ultimately make you stronger. ■ Motherhood & Identity: How becoming a mum has given her a bigger purpose, changed her perspective on performance and made her more hungry than ever to achieve her goals. ■ The Road to Redemption: Six weeks postpartum, Calli is already back to gentle run-walk sessions and has her sights set on an Olympic comeback at LA 2028, with a new teammate and her biggest “why” by her side. Alice Barraclough- Anyone Who Says You'll Be the Same After a Baby Is Lying
You can have it all. Just not all at the same time. What if the life you want doesn’t have to happen all at once? We explore the pressure women put on themselves to have the perfect career, family, body and identity, and why sometimes the key to having it all is accepting that you can’t do it all at the same time. In this episode, we explore: ■ The “Have It All” Myth: Why trying to excel in every area of life simultaneously can leave you feeling like you’re failing at everything. ■ The Power of Seasons: How accepting different seasons of life can help you focus on what matters most without feeling guilty about what temporarily takes a back seat. ■ Redefining Success: Why success doesn’t have to look the same at 25, 35, 45 or beyond, and why your priorities are allowed to change. ■ Motherhood & Ambition: How becoming a mum can change your definition of achievement without diminishing your ambition. ■ Showing Up Stronger: Why you don’t need to do everything perfectly. You just need to keep showing up for the chapter you’re in. Hannah Harley Young - It's never too late to build the career you want
What if the career you thought was forever… wasn’t? What if changing direction wasn’t failure, but a sign you were listening to yourself? In this episode of The Showing Up Stronger Podcast, I sit down with Hannah Harley Young, presenter, food communicator, entrepreneur, podcaster and mum, to discuss career change, motherhood, ambition, confidence, comparison and trusting your gut. Hannah spent 13 years working in photography, photographing high-profile names including members of the Royal Family, the Beckhams and Rihanna. But as the industry changed, she began questioning whether it was still where she wanted to be. That led her to food, a lifelong passion rooted in her multicultural family. She launched Crazy Sexy Food as a side project through YouTube and a podcast. During lockdown, it reached the UK top 10 on Apple Podcasts, opening doors to presenting and live hosting at events including Taste of London and Big Feastival. Hannah shares what it’s like to step into a new career, manage nerves and imposter syndrome, and enter rooms where everyone else seems more experienced. She explains why nerves can be a sign that you care, rather than something to eliminate. We also talk honestly about motherhood, ambition and maintaining an identity outside of being a mum. Hannah shares how time alone, exercise and support from others help her reset without guilt. A key theme is comparison. Hannah discusses feeling like she started too late and worrying that time was running out. Her advice is simple: stay in your own lane. Your journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Your experience, story and perspective can be your biggest strengths. Together, we discuss: • Hannah’s journey from photographer to presenter and food communicator • Starting Crazy Sexy Food as a side project • Career change and trusting your gut • Nerves, confidence and imposter syndrome • Balancing motherhood with ambition • Creating time and space for yourself • Dealing with comparison and social media pressure • Feeling like you’ve started too late • Starting small and building gradually • Why your experience can be your USP This episode is a reminder that there is no single timeline for success. Your career and priorities can change, and you don’t need everything figured out before taking the next step. Trust your gut. Stay in your own lane. Your journey doesn’t need to look like anybody else’s. Kate Rowe-Ham - I thought I was dying - Why so many women are misdiagnosed during perimenopause
What if everything you were feeling wasn’t “just stress”… and you weren’t imagining it? In this episode of The Showing Up Stronger Podcast, I sit down with Kate Rowe-Ham, leading women’s health coach, menopause fitness expert, bestselling author, founder of the Owning Your Menopause app and mum of three. This isn’t just a conversation about menopause. It’s a conversation about finally listening to your body, challenging the narratives women have been taught for decades, and discovering that midlife can be your strongest chapter yet. Kate opens up with incredible honesty about her own journey through perimenopause, a time when she experienced terrifying heart palpitations, anxiety and overwhelming symptoms that left her convinced she was seriously ill. After countless GP appointments, chest X-rays and being offered antidepressants instead of answers, she realised she had to become her own advocate. We also talk about Kate’s battle with disordered eating, growing up believing her worth was tied to being smaller, and how becoming a mother completely changed the way she viewed health, fitness and body image. This conversation is packed with practical advice and hope for every woman navigating midlife, proving that strength isn’t about shrinking yourself, it’s about building yourself back up. Together, we discuss: • The signs of perimenopause that too many women are still missing • Why lifting weights is one of the most powerful things women can do as they age • Healing your relationship with food after years of diet culture • Why movement should be about feeling strong, not looking smaller • How to build your own menopause toolkit through nutrition, strength training, community and mindset • Why women need to stop dismissing their symptoms and start advocating for themselves • The importance of healthy ageing and building strength for the decades ahead Kate is honest, relatable and incredibly passionate about helping women realise that menopause isn’t the beginning of the end, it’s the start of a whole new chapter. Sometimes showing up stronger starts by believing your body, trusting your instincts, and realising it’s never too late to put yourself first. • Follow Kate (https://www.instagram.com/kate_roweham) on Instagram • Follow Showing Up Stronger (https://www.instagram.com/showingupstronger) • Follow Sarah Campus (https://www.instagram.com/sarahcampus) This series is proudly sponsored by Revive Active, who are offering an exclusive discount for all Showing Up Stronger podcast listeners. Helen Thorn - I could not identify with the person I was
What happens when the life you’ve built for more than 20 years suddenly falls apart, and you no longer recognise the person staring back at you? In this episode of The Showing Up Stronger Podcast, I sit down with Helen Thorn – award-winning comedian, Sunday Times bestselling author, one half of the hugely successful Scummy Mummies duo, marathon runner and mum of two teenagers. But this isn’t just a conversation about comedy. It’s a conversation about losing yourself, rebuilding your identity and discovering that sometimes your strongest chapter begins after your world has fallen apart. Helen opens up with incredible honesty about navigating divorce after 22 years, finding herself unexpectedly raising children as a single mum during lockdown and the overwhelming feeling that she could no longer identify with the person she had become. We also talk about joy.
