Winter Special: Dealing with PTSD during the Holidays / How to start the conversation?

The holiday season can be very triggering for a lot of us. Mostly because our experiences when we were young shaped our way of seeing these times and usually we never revisit this trauma to work on it. Listen to this convo with Michael Snipe Jr where he talks about his experiences dealing with trauma and we discuss some tools that are helpful whenever we are looking to resignify this season. Naming things, asking what you want, how to be a good listener, etc; are some of the questions that will help you to start the conversation. Winter Special: Why so SAD? / What is Seasonal Depression?

According to the latest ValuePenguin survey of 2,100 Americans, around 55% of the inquired people experiences sadness and loneliness during the holidays early in 2022 — including 35% who say it's worse than last year.  In the same study, it was founded that members of the LGBTQ+ community face more holiday loneliness than any other demographic analyzed, with 76% experiencing the winter blues. Some of the triggers that affect the most during this time are the ingestion and abuse of alcohol and drugs, the lack of sunlight or the growing sensation of feeling lonely and isolated. During the following weeks I will have different conversations with several specialists and friends that have developed skills and tools to help them to navigate through these times. Follow me in this conversation with Ric Mathews to learn what Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) means, what are the symptoms and some tools to cope with it. www.nubodyandmind.com/therapy-home @ric_mathews on Instagram www.callen-lorde.org www.gaycenter.org www.icpnyc.org www.nycaffirmativepsychotherapy.com Thanks to our sponsor YOURS - www.yoursunderwearworld.com
