Episode 4: Ghosting (Error 404: Love Not Found)

The most modern perhaps of love’s errors. You’ve finally found someone worth trying with, you give them a chance, be your most entertaining self, and it finally feels like you’ve made it! Your love can now go out to pasture and grow old; until the replies get slower, the sentences shorter and all that energy you’ve poured in dissipates. Ghosting feels awful, like you weren’t good enough, and didn’t deserve the respect of an honest conversation. But when does ghosting become ghosting, how close do you need to be to the person? Do you need to have met in person for it to matter? Is ghosting ever acceptable? Why do people do it if it's seen as such an absolute evil? Rosie and I will discuss our experiences with the practice, whether we’ve been the victim or the enactor, how it felt and the reasoning we gave it. Does ghosting go beyond romantic instances? Such as job applications? Bosses? Co-workers? Lecturers? Since we’ve become more online ghosting seems to be prevalent as the pressure of face-to-face interactions isn’t there to keep up the standard of our communication. Is there anything we can do to remedy this? We hope to illuminate the dark places of ghosting and perhaps do a Scooby-Doo reveal of the faces behind the masks.

Episode 3 : Disability Dating (Error 404: Love Not Found)

A more specific bump in the course of love. Through this open conversation we hope to address some of the issues faced by some of the audience, while giving those outside of that group an insight into the lived experience many people have. How does having a disability impact your love life? Does it limit your dating pool? How so? How do you bring it up on dates? Is there any media representation? Rosie is the expert here so the podcast will take on a different feel to the rest as we listen to her take on the topic. Rosie wasn’t born with a visible disability so she has the incredible knowledge of the contrast in the lives of people with disability vs those who do not. We’ll hear the nitty gritty of the difficulties found when it comes to dating as a person with disabilities from find people, initial correspondence, the actual date and going forward. The media representation of the disability dating i have seen has been a sum total of one TV show: “The Undateables”, which by its very title felt belittling and derogatory. A Channel 4 show that first aired in 2012 – 11 seasons, 53 epsiodes and was still running until 2020. Ch4 defended the name with ‘However, Channel 4 claims that the title of the series is based upon society's preconceptions of these people’. We’ll discuss this show and media representation of disability dating in general and hopefully give all our listeners an insight in a world they hadn’t considered before.

Episode 2: Unrequited Love (Error404: Love Not Found)

Perhaps the most universal of love’s errors we’re going to cover. When you fancy someone so much, you can picture your future together, imagine your kids and hear the wedding bells.. The only problem here is that they don’t fancy you back. Many of us have gone through this and at the time it can seem like a world-ending fact but we make it through somehow. In this episode, I’ll discuss my own experience with this as a teenager and how I dealt with rejection (perhaps in a not so healthy way). I’ll bring on a friend of mine, Rosie, who will discuss her own experience and we’ll talk about how these situations arise. The pain of not being wanted is bad, it feels like the world is plotting against you and no one ever fancy you again, however, there is another side to this story. The situation is equally awkward sometimes for those who are fancied but don’t return the feeling, especially if this springs up between friends. We’ll discuss our experiences with this side of one-sided love too and detail what the best course of action is in this situation. We’ll strive to relieve the fear of putting ourselves out there and even if we fail that hopefully, we will make you laugh.
