Something SMELLS FRASER About Liberals Latest MAID Fiasco

Canada's MAID controversy just took a remarkable political turn. Mark Carney's Liberals voted against a Conservative bill intended to permanently prevent medical assistance in dying when mental illness is the sole underlying condition. Then the Liberal government announced plans to pursue essentially the same restriction through its own legislation. So why vote against the Conservative proposal? Bill C-218 was defeated 187–141, despite broad agreement on maintaining the mental-illness exclusion. Justice Minister Sean Fraser raised concerns about the bill's wording, while Conservative MP Tamara Jansen indicated a willingness to address those concerns through amendments. But there's another development Canadians need to understand. The Liberal government also intends to address advance requests for medical assistance in dying, raising separate questions about consent, safeguards and how future medical decisions should be handled when patients lose decision-making capacity. In today's Tap the Maple, Bakes examines: Why the Liberals opposed Bill C-218 The contradiction between the vote and the government's announcement The difference between mental-illness eligibility and advance requests The questions surrounding informed consent and safeguards Why Parliament's March 17, 2027 deadline matters Whether two distinct MAID policy questions should be debated separately The central question: If both parties want to maintain the same exclusion, why couldn't Parliament find a way to advance the legislation? #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #canadlife #markcarney #seanfraser #maid #liberal #conservative #canadiannews #canadianpolitics #canadanews #canadapolitcs #news #politics #health #mentalhealth

Brookfield Wants Your Pension | They Found A Way To Get It

What was Carney’s role in the original proposal? What role did Ottawa play in advancing the current arrangement? What can Brookfield earn—and how were the Prime Minister’s financial interests handled? On this episode of Tap the Maple, Bakes examines the timeline, the pension partnership, the Ethics Commissioner’s testimony and the financial terms Canadians deserve to understand. We follow the documented record: • Brookfield’s original Canadian investment-fund proposal • The structure of the CPP Investments partnership • Carney’s acknowledged financial connection to Brookfield • The questions surrounding fees, project risks and ethics safeguards • The gap between patriotic messaging and financial accountability CPP is investing for a return. The central question is whether Canadians have enough information to judge the arrangement. #markcarney #brookfield #canada #canadalife #cdnpoli #canadianpolitics #canadapolitics #politics #news #canadiannews #canadanews #politicalnews #politicalcommentary

   CARNEY BOUGHT WHAT?!

Mark Carney promised to “Buy Canadian.” A Toronto Star investigation identified an estimated $7.8 billion in federal contract awards to American-controlled corporations under his government. You changed your shopping, but what did Ottawa change? On this episode of Tap the Maple, Bakes goes beyond the hypocrisy headline to examine the bigger question: does Carney’s economic strategy deliver what Canadians were asked to sacrifice for? The Star examined approximately $25 billion in federal contract awards between March 2025 and July 2026. About 31% went to American-controlled corporations, including businesses operating through Canadian subsidiaries. That distinction matters. Supporting Canadian jobs, buying Canadian-made products and reducing dependence on American corporate control are different objectives. Which result is Ottawa actually measuring? We examine: • How American-controlled companies can qualify as Canadian suppliers. • The reported increase in the American-controlled share of federal contracting. • What the Buy Canadian procurement policy actually requires. • Why Canadians deserve measurable results from Carney’s economic sovereignty promises. • Whether the government’s decisions support its prime minister’s reputation for economic expertise. You checked the label. Now let’s check Ottawa’s results. #MarkCarney #BuyCanadian #CanadianPolitics #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #canadalife #liberal #consevative #elbowsup
