<p><strong>In this episode we tackle the topic of Drug and Alcohol addiction, and its impact on your family and friends. </strong></p> <p> https://nida.nih.gov/research-topics/trends-statistics</p> <p> Substance Abuse Statistics</p> <p>Among Americans aged 12 years and older, 37.309 million were current illegal drug users (used within the last 30 days) as of 2020.</p> <ul> <li>13.5% of Americans 12 and over used drugs in the last month, a 3.8% increase year-over-year (YoY).</li> <li>59.277 million or 21.4% of people 12 and over have used illegal drugs or misused prescription drugs within the last year.</li> <li>138.543 million or 50.0% of people aged 12 and over have illicitly used drugs in their lifetime.</li> <li>Usership among people aged 12 and over is down 0.4% YoY.</li> <li>138.522 million Americans 12 and over drink alcohol.</li> <li>28.320 million or 20.4% of them have an alcohol use disorder.</li> <li>57.277 million people use tobacco or nicotine products (vape).</li> <li>25.4% of illegal drug users have a drug disorder.</li> <li>24.7% of those with drug disorders have an opioid disorder; this includes prescription pain relievers or “pain killers” and heroin).</li> </ul> <p> Alcohol Abuse</p> <p>Though legal, alcohol kills over 95,150 Americans every year.</p> <ul> <li>86.4% of people ages 18 or older report drinking alcohol at some point in their lifetime</li> <li>70.1% report drinking in the past year</li> <li>56% report drinking in the past month</li> <li>Among the 15 million individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), less than 8% receive treatment.</li> <li>Alcohol use among 12- to 17-year-olds increased 4.4% from 2018 to 2019, whereas use among other age groups declined.</li> </ul> <p> </p>

<p>“Whoever upsets you, controls you”…Think about it, isn’t it true? When something has not happened the way we wanted it to or someone has not responded as expected, when someone’s behavior or what they said bothered us, <strong>we usually express what we feel with expressions such as “you made me angry,” “you hurt me,” ” you pissed me off…”</strong></p> <p>If we stop to think about it further, our messages translate to “You are to blame<strong> </strong>for how I feel,” “You are responsible for me being this way” or “You cause me harm,” meaning <strong>it’s the other’s fault that we are upset. If someone makes us angry it is because we have given them permission to do so.</strong> </p> <p> </p>
