I have been in public education for 21 years including teaching at the Jr. High and High School Level, middle school principal in a large urban school district, a Superintendent/Principal at a rural K-8 school District, worked at the District Office level and now I am the Superintendent of a rural K-12 school district in Northern California. My purpose it to provide a on the ground view of educational leadership and how to best meet the endless challenges we all face daily with stories of my experiences and guests who I highly respect. Each podcast is meant to be no longer than 15 minutes!

<p>Episode 46: "New Month's Resolution" &nbsp;How is your New Year's Resolution going? &nbsp;If you are like most people, that resolution made on January 1st is barely hanging on by February 1st! &nbsp;In this episode, we will examine how to think about resolutions/goals and I will provide a way to break down those things you are required to do in your current position and create a "work matrix" to help you improve in all areas of your current position through a strategic quarterly goal planning session. &nbsp;</p> <p>3 Takeaways:</p> <p>1) Use the Work Matrix to identify the areas of your job you enjoy/don't enjoy and those areas you are good at/could improve</p> <p>2) Choose 1 of those areas and make a quantifiable measure--then find an accountability partner and share those goals with them.</p> <p>3) Meet weekly with your accountability partner to review your progress towards accomplishing yours goals!</p> <p><br></p>

<p>Episode 45: "How are you?" &nbsp;It's a simple enough question as you enter a room or meet up with an acquaintance or coworker. &nbsp;Did you know that with your response to this simple question, you can set the tone for your entire day and potentially the culture of your entire organization? &nbsp;In this podcast, I go over a recent conversation I had with a district leader and how responding to the question "How are you?" with the response---"I'm Great--how are you?" &nbsp;can change the course of your day.</p> <p><br></p> <p>3 Takeaways:</p> <p>1) Always find the good in the day you are living--the alternative is not so great. &nbsp;You woke up, you feel well enough to come to work!</p> <p>2) Make sure to answer truthfully, but then quickly ask the person who you are talking with how their day is going and ask at least 1 follow up question!</p> <p>3) If you can tell the person you are talking to is not having a good day--follow up later that day with a visit, a call, email, or a quick text!</p>
