Podcast Overview

The Agri-Jobs 4 Youth podcast series addresses different aspects and dimensions of youth employment potential in the agri-food sector in Western Kenya. Over ten episodes, we explore topics ranging from agricultural education, career development and networking, to business incubation, political participation, youth self-organisation, and female empowerment. Many young Kenyans consider agriculture as a poor man’s occupation and a livelihood option of last resort. This perception impacts their career choices, depriving them of actual opportunities at hand. Moreover, the long-overdue rejuvenation of the agri-food sector by innovative agripreneurs is expected to drive its transformation towards a modern, productive and money-making sector of the economy. We at Agri-Jobs 4 Youth aim to unlock economic opportunities for young people in the Western Kenya agri-food sector, both as salaried employees and as self-employed agribusiness entrepreneurs. We follow a holistic, integrated approach to youth employment promotion, focussing on selected, youth-friendly agricultural value chains with high employment potential. Agri-Jobs 4 Youth is a joint initiative, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives (MoALFC). #KilimoNiBiz
