Every 90 Minutes | Plymouth Argyle’s Powerful Suicide Prevention Campaign
Clipped from our Post match show specifically to give on every 90 minutes, the length of a football match, someone dies by suicide in the UK.
Plymouth Argyle have launched Every 90 Minutes, a season-long campaign using the power of football to raise awareness of suicide, challenge the stigma around mental health and encourage people to talk and seek support.
In this special segment from The Block 9 Podcast, we look at Argyle’s campaign and share the incredibly powerful video featuring supporters speaking openly about their own experiences of suicide, mental health struggles and the importance of simply being there for somebody.
💚 Every home league game this season, a seat will be added outside the Devonport End at Home Park, representing a life lost to suicide during the time it takes to play a football match.
The campaign is being supported alongside organisations and groups including Plymouth City Council, Andy’s Man Club, The Clean Sheet, The Lighthouse Charity and Argyle Community Trust.
We also discuss something we have witnessed within our own Block 9 community.
Sometimes football is much more than 90 minutes.
A podcast, a WhatsApp group, a conversation at Home Park or simply asking somebody “Are you OK?” can provide an escape and connection when somebody needs it most.
As the campaign says:
Suicide prevention is everyone’s business.
If you are struggling, please speak to somebody. You do not have to deal with things alone.
💚 Please share this video. You never know who might need to see it.
The Block 9 Podcast is an independent, unofficial Plymouth Argyle supporter show.
