So if the family wanted to stay together, Annie and her slightly older brother, Bennett, at 20 years old, were going to have to instantly become the adults in the family. They had a 10 and an 8 year old brother and sister to raise. and so you gotta accept the mantle of adulthood early. Bennett was a reporter and an ad salesman for a newspaper, and he had just gotten married to his wife, Bertha, and Annie took the classic path to security.
