This was a story about one of the hardest problems we face, which is when we have some of the most desperate citizens in our societies, whether you're in New York or London or, you know, Paris or anywhere else. There are people in our cities who are homeless, who are mentally ill, who are struggling, who are in crisis. What do we do for them? What do we do with them? What do we do to them? What is the shape our compassion should take? And so I followed and immersed myself in the lives of homeless people, sat on the street with them as they dealt with the NYPD coming to try to sweep them off the street. […]
