[…] But Picton, whose division they come up against, can't really concentrate his whole force against this move. So about 6 a.m., the French set off. There's one division under General Oudely, and that's aiming for a pass where basically a track runs up to the top of the ridge and And in around the middle of this really long kind of 10 mile long ridge. And the second division under Mel is aiming somewhere to their right. Now, maybe half a mile or so, maybe a mile just to the north to a defile or a dip between hills that will allow them to establish themselves on the ridge as well. So both of these divisions are basically aiming for a gap in the hills, if nothing else. to try to establish themselves on the ridge. […]
