And there are said to be three kinds of tanha, craving for sensual pleasure, craving for becoming and craving for non-becoming. So when we crave sensual pleasure, we make our happiness contingent on obtaining physical pleasures, such as comfort and safety and physical well-being. When we crave becoming, you might say we're making our happiness contingent on certain conditions which have not yet come into being. And when we crave non becoming, then we make our happiness contingent on an end to certain existing conditions. […]
