[…] Sometimes there's a history of abuse or neglect, and sometimes the child needs help that the parents can't provide. When kids enter the system, they might end up in foster care, or they could end up in a group home, or some kind of temporary arrangement. That all falls under the umbrella of government care. Now, you would hope that this system would give kids a good chance in life. But some people who know it argue it doesn't always work out that way. So you can look at educational outcomes, mental health, the ability to get a job. And by these measurements, there's a lot of kids who feel they get left behind. […]
