[…] Israel and the United States of America are in a small club of democracies, but in a smaller club of countries that think about tomorrow, don't stop thinking about tomorrow, and have a land that they dreamed of once in a lullaby. And they're kind of catalytic and idealistic. There are biblical ties that both promised lands have. The fact that both are liberal democracies. So there's a kind of ideological affinity. There also is a very clear, as we saw most recently in the Iran war, a deep, deep strategic alliance that will not go away so quickly. So on my darkest of days, when I see the Democratic Party forgetting all the idealistic connections, I at least say, okay, well, you know, for years, nobody's been in love with Saudi Arabia and its political system, but one politician after another, one general after another, one diplomat after another, has seen the power of being alive with Saudi Arabia.
