[…] Let's have a quick refresher on canine primary hepatic tumors because they're not all created equal. According to previously established data cited by the authors in this report, hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary liver tumor in dogs, followed by hepatocellular adenoma, accounting for 67% and 24% respectively. With hepatocellular carcinoma, if the primary hepatic tumor is resectable, surgery can be a worthwhile treatment option, as it's resulted in median survival times in the range of around 670 to 830 days. So theoretically, surgery has the potential to buy these dogs a few extra years. […]
