[…] But California pumpkins are more for Halloween and decoration, while the Illinois crop grows mainly for processing. More and more blueberries are being grown in California. Just a generation ago, we didn't think of California as having much of a blueberry industry. Todd Sanders is executive director of the California Blueberry Commission. I asked him for an update of this year's crop. Blueberries just finished up in early July, and we finished at a peak, our record volume this year at 92 million pounds. And so California is growing pretty quickly in the blueberry industry. So that is a good sign for a healthy, really unique crop that California can really benefit from. […]
