Nog altijd op bezoek bij componist en gitarist Joël Bons horen Melchior Huurdeman en Aad van Nieuwkerk met groeiend ontzag hoe voor het Atlas Ensemble - en naderhand zelfs: het Atlas Orkest - instrumentalisten van over de hele wereld bereid werden gevonden om hun snaar- en of blaasinstrumenten mee te nemen uit de cultuurhistorische context waar ze 'thuishoren' en samen te werken met musici uit totaal andere delen van de wereld, die op vergelijkbare, maar ook héél andere, instrumenten spelen.

In deze aflevering vertelt Joël over zijn reizen naar China, en over de kennismaking met Chinese componisten als Tan Dun en Guo Wenjing, van wie het Nieuw Ensemble werk ging spelen.
