Memories Of California Fashions - When Bathurst became a World Fashion Hub.
In May 2026 the Bathurst District Historical Society hosted a Bathurst Autumn Colours Heritage Festival Event called Fashioning the Past: Memories of California Fashions. The event involved a tour of the old factory on the Blayney Road which has been home to a variety of manufacturing businesses over the decades, including the notable clothing company California Fashions. During this tour, historians from the Bathurst District Historical Society uncovered the site’s rich history and shared insights and stories from former employees of the fashion manufacturer. Visitors will also enjoy a display of garments produced by California Fashions during the 1950s and 1960s, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the company’s contribution to Bathurst’s industrial heritage.

PART 1 Bicycle History on the Famous Mt Panorama Race Circuit
This is Part 1 of two podcasts on the extensive history of bicycle racing on the famous Mt Panorama motor racing circuit. Part 1 looks at the birth & construction of Mt Panorama and its forerunner the historic Vale Circuit, explaining that the bicycle was involved in the initial development of the famous Bathurst motor racing circuit; even creating & contributing to the sporting and racing culture in the city to establish the desire to build the racing venue. A series of interviews looks at both the NSWCU and the League of Wheelman’s involvement. But then how a schoolboy from Sydney broke down the barriers to establish an annual cycling promotion, which fully used the Mt Panorama Circuit and Pit Complex and would lead to the first National Mountain Bike Championship. Part 1 starts with the history of the 1930’s at Vale Road and continues to the early 1990s at Mt Panorama but touches on the drama of the Covid 19 Pandemic and the important cycling activity on Mt Panorama in the 2020’s. Check out Part 2 for the important cycling events from the 1990’s to the 2020s.
