Beginning Monday, April 20, Westwinds will observe the Breviary Online. This will consist of two public services every weekday: Matins at 8am, with teaching primarily from the New Testament; Vespers at 6pm, with teaching primarily from the Old Testament. There will be an additional service on Saturday at 10am called Kyrie, focusing on the Psalms. The Breviary will be produced in addition to our regular Sunday services via Westwinds Online, which will continue as always at 9am, 11am, and 6pm.

<p>Beginning Monday, April 20, Westwinds will observe the Breviary Online. This will consist of two public services every weekday: Matins at 8am, with teaching primarily from the New Testament; Vespers at 6pm, with teaching primarily from the Old Testament. There will be an additional service on Saturday at 10am called Kyrie, focusing on the Psalms.</p> <p> </p> <p>The Breviary will be produced in addition to our regular Sunday services via Westwinds Online, which will continue as always at 9am, 11am, and 6pm. However, these new services will replace David’s morning coffee-talks and Ben’s afternoon Instagram sessions. We know that many people have found value in these, so our intention is to *improve them, rather than replace them. Our Breviary will be warm, authentic, and meaningful…just like the coffee talks.</p> <p> </p> <p>The Breviary services will be deliberately short, with a target length of 10-12 minutes. They will consist of preaching, a pre-recorded worship song original to Westwinds, and a sacrament. Currently, our plan for the sacraments is: Monday - giving an offering to God; Tuesday - remembering our baptism; Wednesday - participating in communion and consecrating the host; Thursday - commissioning our congregation, (i.e. a mission/task for the week); and Friday - reciting a confession of faith (apostles creed, alt creed, etc). The sacraments will be produced with an air of holy mystery, much like the content we created during Holy Week, with our music providing the bridge between “warm teaching” and “holy mystery”. The services will open with an invocation and close with a benediction, both written poetically, for later re-use. Kyrie will follow a very different format, giving our designers an opportunity to play with form and structure similar to our Holyphonics project from 2018.</p> <p> </p> <p>It is our intention to offer the Breviary for at least the duration of the shelter-in-place order. However, since that duration is presently unknown, our first season of the Breviary will run until the 4th of July (even if the shelter-in-place order is lifted).</p>
