[…] Well, I wish I had met you a long time ago then. What exactly is dry eye? I know that it's not always simply not producing enough tears. There's more to it than that. Dry eye syndrome is a category of abnormalities of the eyes surface that gives patients a shared collection of symptoms. Those symptoms range from redness, irritation, grittiness, sandy sensation, overflow, tearing, and itching. Those symptoms come from a wide variety of underlying processes, not all of which are simply an under production of tears. And so in order to fully understand the symptoms associated with dry eye syndrome, a ophthalmologist needs to have a fairly good understanding of what is individual in any given patient going on. […]
