About Widowed AF

British Podcast Awards 2025 - Winner. In 2018, Rosie Moss lost her husband Ben in a diving accident, leaving her widowed at 37 with three children. Finding grief resources shallow and platitudes empty, she created Widowed AF—a podcast offering honest conversations about loss. Through guest stories and expert advice, the show covers practical challenges (finances, single parenting) and emotional realities (anger, loneliness, joy). From processing her own grief to building a global community, Rosie helps others feel less alone. The podcast provides tools and shared experiences for rebuilding life after loss.

"Nobody's Coming to Save Us": Alex Reagan on Widowed Fatherhood and Finding Himself Again.

Trigger warning: This episode contains discussions of sudden death, traumatic bereavement, and the impact of parental loss on young children. In February 2024, Alex Reagan's fiancée Kelly died suddenly, leaving him to raise their two young children, then aged just three and one. This week on Widowed AF, Alex joins Rosie for an honest, moving and frequently funny conversation about the reality of being a widowed dad, navigating grief while raising two small children, and trying to hold everything together when your own world has fallen apart. Alex shares the story of meeting Kelly at a wedding, falling in love and building a family together. He recalls the devastating moment police arrived at his door, the heartbreak of telling his little boy that Mummy wasn't coming home, and the ongoing challenge of helping his children understand a loss that will shape the rest of their lives. Together, Rosie and Alex discuss the relentless demands of solo parenting, the pressure of being the only surviving parent, returning to work before you're ready, and the fear that you're somehow getting it all wrong. They also explore the loneliness of widowhood, the importance of finding something that belongs just to you, and why we still seem so determined to make grief more comfortable for everyone else. Alex also shares his disturbing experience of being targeted by an AI company offering to recreate Kelly digitally, prompting a fascinating discussion about the ethics of using artificial intelligence to bring the dead back to life, and the potential impact on grieving children. From half-marathons and school runs to the absurd things people say to the bereaved, this conversation is full of the humour, honesty and shared understanding that comes from two people who know exactly what it means to lose their person while still having children who need them. Because when you're widowed with young children, you don't get to put life on hold. You have to keep showing up, even on the days when you have absolutely no idea how.

Lili Myers: Love, Loss and Life After Dave

Content warning: death, cancer, end-of-life care, grief and mourning in the public eye. Lili Myers: Love, Loss and Life After Dave When Dave Myers, one half of the much-loved Hairy Bikers, died in February 2024, the nation mourned a man they'd welcomed into their living rooms for years. But behind the public grief was a woman who had lost her husband, her best friend and the man she'd built her life with. This week, I'm joined by Dave's wife, Lili Myers, for a wonderfully warm, funny and deeply moving conversation about their extraordinary love story, the devastation of cancer and what happens when you have to grieve someone the whole country feels it knows. Lili takes me back to Romania in 2005, where a chance meeting during the filming of the very first Hairy Bikers series led to an exchange of emails that gradually became love letters. She shares beautiful memories of Dave as a husband and stepfather, from motorbike adventures across Europe to his morning ritual of egg and soldiers with her daughter. We talk about the brutal reality of his cancer diagnosis, the physical and emotional toll of treatment, and Lili's determination to squeeze as much living as possible into the time they had left. From driving Dave to Lake Geneva to helping him fulfil his dreams, hers is a story of extraordinary love and devotion. And then there's Dave Day. What began as an idea among friends became an astonishing tribute, with tens of thousands of motorcyclists taking to the roads to celebrate a man who meant so much to so many. But beyond the public celebrations, we talk about the private reality of widowhood. The loneliness, the anger, the pressure to be brave and the strange business of rebuilding a life you never wanted to live without your person. Lili also talks about writing her bestselling book Dave & Me, her work supporting other bereaved people and why she doesn't see grief as a journey towards healing, but as a process of becoming. This is an episode full of love, laughter, tears and some truly wonderful stories about the Dave Myers we didn't get to see on television. And perhaps most importantly, it's a reminder that grief and happiness can coexist. That we can carry our love for someone who has died while still finding ways to live. Our Baby Was 13 Days Old When My Husband Had a Seizure | Anne Byrne

Content warning: death, cancer (glioblastoma), end-of-life care, parenting after loss. When Anne Byrne gave birth to her daughter Elizabeth in May 2020, she should have been settling into the beautiful, exhausting chaos of life with a newborn. Thirteen days later, her husband Javi had a seizure at home. A scan revealed a brain tumour. Javi was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable brain cancer, and died just 15 months later. In this episode, Anne joins me from Dublin to talk about becoming a first-time mum and a carer almost simultaneously, navigating Javi’s treatment during Covid, and trying to hold onto hope as scan after scan brought more bad news. As Javi became increasingly unwell, Anne found herself caring for both her baby and her husband. In the final month of his life, they moved to Spain so Javi could be close to his family and friends. He died there in September 2021, with Elizabeth still only a baby. We talk about the strange reality of becoming a solo parent when you have barely had the chance to learn how to be a parent at all, and the responsibility of keeping a parent’s memory alive for a child who was too young to really remember them. Anne shares the ways she keeps Javi present for Elizabeth through photographs, videos, stories and pieces of his clothing, as well as the little glimpses of her dad she now sees emerging in her daughter. We also talk about spirituality after death, the signs Anne believes she has received from Javi, and how Reiki became an important part of her own grief. Anne has since trained as a Reiki master and now runs grief support groups, combining sharing, breathwork and Reiki to create the kind of space she struggled to find when she was newly bereaved. There is sadness here, obviously. But there is also humour, gratitude and a really lovely conversation about what can grow around grief. As Anne says, it can be easier to be grateful for the small things than to chase happiness. 🎧 Listen to Widowed AF wherever you get your podcasts.
